After quite a few years competing in local races and a couple of years with a cycling coach trying to improve my weakest discipline, I joined trimoore in the winter of 2012. The Age Group world championships were being held in London in 2013, I was just turning 40 and so I thought it would be good to have a crack at trying to qualify for the GB Team. I had benefited from some cycle coaching over the previous couple of years but knew that I needed to balance my training across the three disciplines to maximise my potential. I qualified for the GB team in the 40-44 age group and 8 years later I am still with trimoore – why?

As an endurance athlete "more/harder training is always better" is an easy trap to fall into – most importantly, it often doesn't work. One of the first things that I noticed about my trimoore programme was that it was very manageable in terms of volume and intensity but Rob still promised that I would improve year-on-year. Rob also understands that if you have a demanding job and young family etc then training is not always the most important thing in your life. It's all about balance. And it has worked. I am a still competing well in my age group (and looking forward to moving up in two years time!), regularly winning my age category, and have completed 2 ironman distance races in under 10.5 hours. The best thing about the ironman races was that the training wasn't really much harder than in any other year when I was doing standard or half-ironman distances. Consequently I enjoyed the training and arrived at the start line fresh and raring to go. If I had designed my own programme I would almost certainly have over trained and been tired, injured and fed up by the time race day arrived. Having a coach also makes you do the stuff that you know you should do but don't – like doing gym sessions, taking at least one rest day a week, not trying to make every training session a pb, [practising your open water swimming and doing strange things like riding up and down the same hill several times in the dark before 7am in February.
If you are thinking about getting a coach then do it – you will get more value than spending another £1,000 on fancy wheels – the engine is the most important piece of equipment!!

Following a 4th place finish at Ironman 70.3 Weymouth in 2017 I started working with trimoore coaching with the goal to progress to the podium and secure a place at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships.
Just two years later I am learning a new discipline (mountain biking) and find myself on the podium for the World Championships and European Championships in cross triathlon.

The diverse knowledge, skills and experience of the coaches at trimoore has facilitated my development as a triathlete and I have seen significant improvements in my performance year on year.

The speed at which I’ve improved is awesome, and I actually enjoy training now. It’s not a chore or something I don’t look forward to anymore. I even look forward to sprint sessions, which is something I never thought I’d say. Triathlon can tend to be a lonely sport, however with the group sessions and getting to know other members of trimoore coaching you feel like you’re part of a team and its great to have people rooting for you and interested in how your getting on and supporting you in your races. Another winning factor is that injury now seems to be a thing of the past. The training schedule Rob’s created for me, works just right. I’ve been coached by Rob for almost a year now and if I keep improving at the rate I have been, I can’t wait to see what the next year brings.

I did my first sprint triathlon 6 years ago. At that time I was 3.5 stone heavier and although I struggled to finish I caught the triathlon bug!
After ‘self coaching’ myself to do 3 Half Ironman Triathlons, I approached trimoore coaching for some professional guidance. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Rob & Mike are excellent coaches: pragmatic, patient, experienced and organised. My training programme has kept me focused throughout lockdown.

My biggest achievement is completing the Outlaw (Ironman distance) triathlon in 2021. Thanks to Rob's expert guidance I felt mentally and physically strong at the start line and really enjoyed the day (especially overtaking lots of men on the last 5km!). I was also very humbled to receive the Exeter Triathlon Club Chairs Award last year in recognition of my Outlaw achievement.

I can’t recommend trimoore coaching enough both for the already ‘accomplished’ athletes and a ‘middle aged, average, Mum of two like me!

I started training with trimoore in September 2019. I needed some inspiration to get fit and a clear plan on how to make progress. I am not a natural athlete but coach Rob has been patient and sets a realistic and effective plan each month. Under his guidance I have developed a passion for Open Water swimming including winning silver medals for my age category at both Exmoor and Dartmoor Open Water swims. I also love aquathlons and am really looking foward to entering more events this summer. Rob has also mentored me to improve my coaching skills and to gain the L1 BTF coaching qualification last summer. trimoore is definitely for everyone from elite athletes to ordinary folks like me!
